About Bath
The world heritage site of Bath and its surrounding areas is one of the UK's most beautiful places to live and study. Its world heritage status ranks it alongside such places as Prague, Vienna and Florence as “must see” destinations.
However, Bath is much more than simply a tourist destination. It is a thriving city with much to offer residents and students alike.
Bath is a compact city with a thriving social scene. Aside from the many pubs, clubs and restaurants, there is the annual Bath festival which is now recognised as one of the most prestigious in the country. Channel 4's Taste of Bath food festival is now an annual summer event where the best restaurants, chefs and wine makers - along with the odd celebrity! - come to showcase their wares.
For two weeks before Christmas, the Abbey churchyard is taken over by the Bath Christmas Market. Over 100 wooden chalets make up a wonderful Christmas shopping experience each offering unique and unusual handmade gifts, food items and decorations.
As a shopping centre, Bath is undergoing extensive improvements with the redevelopment of Southgate. The anchor store of the new development is Debenhams department store with several other complimentary stores, cafes and leisure spaces opening from Autumn 2009 onwards. Milsom Place is another recent refurbishment providing a high end shopping and eating experience with designer clothes and celebrity chefs!
The areas surrounding Bath are equally rich with heritage and history. Within easy reach of the city centre are chocolate box villages and rolling valleys - the ideal place to spend a day away from the books!
